TLS, 1963 November 21 : West Redding, CT, to Dallas Sherman.

Written to Sherman at the Protestant Council of the City of New York, Steichen writes: " ... we are faced in our country with a piece of America's unfinished business that calls for an all out effort to eliminate the evil engendered by the deep-rooted prejudices against our negro people. I am at present conducting a research with a view to ascertain whether there are enough photographs with which to create a large scale exhibition on this subject."

Edward Jean Steichen, born Eduard Jean Steichen (March 27, 1879 – March 25, 1973), was a Luxembourgish American photographer, painter, and curator.
